Suddenly, Summer

Summer happened this weekend. Friday the mercury hit 33ºC. For you 'Mericans, that's just about ninety-two degrees Fahrenheit. Only ninety-two, you expostulate. But remember with our 65% relative humidity that feels like about 114ºF. In the shade.
Still it wouldn't seem quite so bad if it weren't for the fact that Thursday's high was 19.5, or a lowly 67 degrees. I think we need to relabel our months up here. So far this year, we've had January, January, March, March, March, and August.

Last night the wife and I went down into the city to a little bar - right near our first apartment - to see a band called Headbone Station. One of the band members is an old high school buddy of mine, so we thought we'd check 'em out.
Except when we got there we found out they weren't playing that night, regardless of what their MySpace page said. So we sat and had a beer and listened to the Pete Martin reggae karaoke experience instead. Man, I'll tell you; there's a real feeling of responsibility in being the only members of an audience. It was like we were in some little cabana at an unpopular resort somewhere in the Caribbean. Pete was playing just for us. We felt guilty leaving after only one beer.
Well, not that guilty. He wasn't really all that good.

Oh you wimpy Canuck... yesterday it was 98 with 90 percent humidity in NJ!  Ha!  It was disgusting.  Today was just as hot, but less humid, thanks to a thundershower last night, and some scattered ones today.  We have jumped from what is usually lovely April spring weather into August too.  It bites.  And, my Hubby didn't hydrate enough as the temps starting creeping up this week and now it seems his diverticulitis is all flared up.  Ugh.  Going to sulk and read a book.

Hey... did ya hear?  Dan has FINALLY joined us in the 40's.  Ha ha ha to him!  LOL

be well,
Dawn

Yeah yeah....  I'm 40 now.  I might as well open a vein and end it all.

Anyway, ninety-two in Canada?  This is not going to help the permafrost, and before too long, you guys are going to be eating your poutines for the sheer enjoyment of it rather for its life-saving quality.

I feel your heat.  Well, not really your heat.  Our heat.  Which is very similar.

Don't know much on the top 10 lists but would love to give a listen to anything called "I Ain't Gonna Be Your Monkey Man".

Would you believe I knew an ol' boy who was called Monkey?

Poor Pete. If there's anything I hate more than being embarrassed, it's being embarrassed for someone else.

I'm hearing you on the heat. It's a lovely 94 degrees here and it isn't quite noon yet. Foolish me is going to go out and mow the lawn in this. Otherwise the next chance I get I might accidently mow over a cat with the grass being so high....Sorry you didn't get to see your band. It seems like they would of had the courtesy to update their page if they weren't going to be playing. (Hugs) Indigo

Yeah, it's hot here.... it's 96 degrees.. how do you make that little degree symbol, anyway? I can't find it on my keyboard. Dumb question... I know, and if I knew my keyboard better, I suppose I could find it, but I don't know how to do it. Got any suggestions? About being the only ones in the audience... that happened to me and my husband once when we were out of state on vacation. Stopped in an unfamiliar place... found ourselves basically the only ones listening to the music, so I felt obligated to clap and act like I really enjoyed his attempts to sounds like Jimmy Buffet... even though I really wasn't in the mood for Jimmy Buffet (but I do like Jimmy Buffet, just not right then). We stayed about an hour, then left when no one else came in. That's what happens when you go on vacation in the middle of the week rather than the weekend! stay cool. bea

I love the heat & hate air conditioning.  But the kitten was wilting.  I now have an air conditioner in one of the rooms.  She is quite comfortable up there. She only checked on me twice.
I CANNOT leave a place if a someone is doing a gig & almost no one is there. The guilt. ~Mary

"a real feeling of responsibility in being the only members of an audience"...it's too much pressure -- even after doing many shots!

Poor Pete Martin. Oh well, at least you lasted a beer.

I'm guessing that you know the bass player in Headbone Station? I haven't seen him in over 20 years! Wow. Tell him to update the band website.
