When the Mondegreens are better than the real thing...

I was going to write an entry about really cool album titles. The main one I was going to mention was Acts As Bold As Love, by Jimi Hendrix. That's a really cool album title, don't you agree? Unfortunately, that's not actually the title of the second album released by The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
A little bit of Googling for background information on the album revealed that the real title of Hendrix's sophmore release was Axis: Bold As Love. Not only is that nowhere near as cool as what I thought it was called, it doesn't even seem to speak to me at all. What the hell does 'Axis: Bold As Love' mean, anyway?

So, I'm left with Paper at the Gates of Dawn, by Pink Floyd, and The Twelve Drums of Doctor Sardonicus, by Spirit. What's your pick for coolest album title ever?

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, of course!  Although for clever simplicity, it's hard to top the LP before that, Revolver. - Karen

Hi Paul, I hope it's ok that I am writing you back through your journal.  Thank you for coming to my sight and leaving a comment, I appreciate your honesty and boldness.  I took the liberty to read your entries in your journal to get a better idea of who you are.  That 100 things about me helped a lot.
I think that being a parent makes me a better person. Good people can do bad things and not be a bad person and bad people can do good things but not be good people.  There's good and bad in all of us.
I have read the Bible from front to back and in between and believe in it with all my heart and soul, just like I know with unwavering confidence that God is real.  I know he has not come back yet because I am here and I am very confident that when he comes, he will take me.  Yes, there are many things that have happened in history that have caused people to believe it was the tribulation or raputre.  The signs of the last days are clearly layed out in the scripture and I believe it's a person's perspective on things and interpertation of things that happen, that cause them to think the way they do.  If the Lord had of already come, it would have made huge headlines.  Imagine, people all around you just vanishing before your eyes, all over the world?  Plus, since God holds back the evil in this world to a certain degree, imagine what it would be like if no one held it back?  There will be no God to turn too once he comes and the Bible will not exist.  Those are just a few things that I can say is evidence that he has not come back.  As for his very existence ...  I would have to ask how you can watch someone's car be hit by another car and be completely smashed around them and that person walk away without a scratch ...... that's a miracle.  Just one of the many reasons I know God is real.  Respectfully .......

"...Sardonicus" is certainly right up there, whether it be Drums or Dreams.  But the real winner has to be, unquestionably, "Weasels Ripped My Flesh".  I mean, come on.

(And the coolest song title that comes to mind is "The Inexhaustible Quest for the Cosmic Cabbage", from the Amboy Dukes' album "Marriage on the Rocks".  You didn't ask, but....)

Allo all,
Can you tell I'm in night shift mode.
2AM and nothin' better to do than "gargle" on Paul's blog.

As far as the album titles go, I honestly have to admit I never really paid attention. I only cared about the title enough to know which albums I liked and which I did not.
Therefore my entries are lame.
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd (made me think - hmmmm!)
In Through the Out Door - Led Zeppelin (oooh! flouting authority!!)

Sorry, pretty lame!

I actually was tempted to post because of Slimhawk. (sorry to hijack your blog Paul)

Slimhawk (is it okay if I call you that?), you really need to read more of Paul's blog to get to understand him.
Arguing about whether or not God has "come back yet" with Paul is like arguing about whether Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny visited your house with a full grown  adult who is sane and not on hallucinogenics.
Paul won't argue God has come back because Paul does not believe God exists.
He can't come back if he is not there... wherever there may be.

Also, your car accident example is hardly a miracle unless you consider the computer you are typing on a miracle as well.
Airbags, seatbelts, crumple zones and protective passenger areas allow those people to walk away. That is referred to as science and technology not God.

Trust me, a collision at any speed above 80km/hr involving a concrete bridge abutment (or something similar) will leave a crumpled car and a skin sack full of pablum (regardless of any belief in God).

I'm afraid you'll have to do much better to convince any of us (and "this is really going to bake your noodle", I already believe in God - albeit differently than you) let alone Paul of a Supreme Being.

Hey did I just hear thunder!!

To be fair to slimhawk, you are seeing his comment out of context. It was a reply to a comment I left at his blog, here: http://journals.aol.com/slimhawk/IBELIEVE/entries/2007/10/07/this-thinking-about-god/2461

That does clarify the comment some.
The car analogy was still poor though.

As I read his post, I found myself thinking that at first blush there is no real harm in that kind of thinking but at some point in time they have to realize that it just ain't going to happen in their lifetime. BIG downer!

When your life is so completely dedicated to something that doesn't come about, it's got to be a tough pill to swallow.
No thanks.

The year was 1968. The band was named Mother Earth. The album title: Living With The Animals,

Well, it's always resonated for me...

I always kinda liked, "Happiness is not a Fish You Can Catch", by Our Lady Peace.

The album didn't wow me, but the name resonated with me.

I kinda like "One Horse Snowken Sleigh" , It's an oldie but remains one of my favourites

I always liked the made-up language of the first three Police LP's: Outlandos d'Amour, Regatta de Blanc, and Zenyatta Mondatta.

I also find it amusing that we're all talking about albums and LP's. I think we're showing our age. Ha!

Hey, how about,

"You Can Tune a Piano, But You Can't Tuna Fish."
REO Speedwagon.
Now that's showing one's age!!

you are a nurd

"nurd"
Was that for me??

If so I shall respond with an equally intelligent comment worthy of such a cutting remark.

"Oh yeah?!?"

Take that.

I don't know if he was talking to you or me, Brent, but I question that 'nurd' terminology. Personally, I think I fall closer to the geak side of the coin. Maybe even with a little bit of Dwieb thrown in. I don't, however, think that gouber, gufball, or loozer fit.

Whomever he/she is, they are obviously far to intellectual to be slumming around your blog.
I mean "nurd"... and with that cuul spelling!!
Too quick for me,

Uh...The Pink Floyd album is actually called The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

As for other album titles, there's...

Crisis? What Crisis? by Supertramp (the cover art makes this title rock)
decemberunderground by A.F.I.
Sing the Sorrow by A.F.I.
Weird Food and Devastation by The Connells
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy by Sarah McLachlan
Murmur by R.E.M.
Who We Are Instead by Jars of Clay

Coolest ever?  I think I'd have to go with the Sarah McLachlan.

Yes, and the Spirit album is really called The Twelve *Dreams* of Dr. Sardonicus. And here I thought I was being so obvious...

Well I was kinda wondering about that.  I'm not familiar with the Spirit album.

Was a big Spirit fan, but always thought that 'Twelve Dreams ... ' was a dumb name.  Same with 'Axis', but I think Ole' Jimi wasn't always thinking too clearly when he named his albums, if ya get my drift ( no pun intended ).  I was always kinda partial to 'The Who' album names.  I think it's a tie between 'The Who Sell Out' and ' Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy.'   Tina  p.s.  Hope all is well, my friend
