Humph!

Banner ads go international

Now all you guys who were pissed off at me for speaking up about a situation that didn't affect me can come by, point, and laugh.

The ads are pretty damn annoying, but I'd love to see the run-down on just how effective they really are.  I can't imagine anyone really clicking on them.  So, they seem to be entirely useless.

Sorry to hear that your journal's been polluted, though.

There's always blogspot. I've got text ads BY CHOICE. And they pay me 18 cents per click. What's AOL paying you?

I was, and am, pissed off at people who DIDN'T speak up.  I don't think anyone will be doing a study on how effective the ads are. Not sure it matters. The relevant question is "How effective do advertisers BELIEVE they are?"  That's what brings in the revenue.

Just be sure to post a link to your new host once you do leave.  Blogspot is free, but the advanced features on Typepad are worth the annual fee.  And if you want, you can buy the domain "AuroraWalkingVacation.com" if you want and work from that.

Like the good girl that I am. I went back and had a look see. About all this hob-bub. Here is my 2 cents on the matter. Keep the change.

1. Spell Check - a good thing for peeps like me. But I don't think it has any benefit to you. Because your sooo darn smart.

2. Aol Journal  - Pretty please!!! Don't go and leave your adoring fans behind!!!

3. Underdog - I think the very best thing I can say about you is. You are not afraid. You will be first one to stand up and say. "that's not very smart" Those aren't your words but that is basically what you mean. And that you are the creator of CarinAol. You can't quit now....

Not here to point and laugh.  Just here to say, that it's sad that they decided to do this to everyones journals.  I wonder if anyone has even clicked them.  I know I haven't.  It's a waste of space if you ask me.

I think we have the right to speak up on any matter, regardless how or if it effects us directly.  Sometimes it is actually a heroic thing, speaking up or out for some who can't or won't speak for themselves.  Hope this doesn't drive you away, but if you feel you have to go please leave a forwarding address.   - Barbara

I kinda lost my yen for journaling with all that went on.  It hurt to lose so many good people, they handled everything so wrong.  Did they announce what they were doing abroad? A warning perhaps?  If they did not, then after what happened to our Jland - they don't give a crap about any of us.  Sandi

I found it amusing that Yeol Crane would ask for feed back.  Why?  Sounds like its already a done deal, he's admitted that they have nothing to do with it, so whats the point?  It certainly didn't do US any good.  We just got an email address to dump our complaints and concerns in.  He's right though, its a business.  You journal alone generates quite a number of hits a day.  They are selling hits.  Good grief, it sounds like a sleezy drug den!  Anyhow, I'm sorry your journal is going to be marred with those tacky banner ads.  And just for the record, I respect that Mr. Crane has announced the upcoming changes... in advance, and is even making the effort to get some input.  I just wish the quality of services for the users weren't dictated by the company's quest for bigger profits.  Personally I don't think AOL should be in the subscriber/ paid membership business anymore since their desire to offer their members a quality service has long since been replaced by their desire to turn a hefty profit based on these members usage.  I said it before and I'll say it again, we have become the product and AOL is selling us to the highest bidder.  It gives a whole new meaning to 'pimping a journal' now doesn't it?

Well, I suppose it was just a matter of time.  Please stay... the ads are just not that annoying.... no one clicks the damn things anyway....

It's annoying for sure. But as I suspected, AOL doesn't seem to care what we think.

I'm hoping that you will decide to stick around, Paul.  But, wherever you end up, here or there or anywhere, I just hope you keep writing, so that I can keep reading.  Tina
